Hi, I'm Bruce.

Like many dog owners, I became frustrated by the number of heavily processed dog treats being marketed as "healthy."  Too many contained artificial preservatives, fillers, colours and ingredients that I wouldn't choose for my own dog.

That's why I started Healthy Dog Treats.

When you buy from Healthy Dog Treats, you're buying from specialists who focus almost exclusively on natural dog treats—not a general pet store selling thousands of unrelated products.

Every product in our range has been selected because it's something we'd be happy feeding our own dogs. Rather than overwhelming you with endless choices, we focus on quality, simple ingredients and practical advice to help you choose treats that suit your dog's age, health and chewing style.

For more than 15 years I've dedicated my time to researching dog nutrition and helping Australian dog owners choose healthier, more natural alternatives.

Today we've built one of Australia's largest ranges of natural dog treats, trusted by thousands of Australian dog owners, but our mission hasn't changed.

How often should I give my dog treats?
Treats should be given in moderation and should not make up more than 10% of your dog's daily diet. Depending on the size and activity level of your dog, you can give them one to three treats per day. NOTE Commercial dog foods are often very low in bio available protein that supplies the ESSENTIAL amino acids a dog needs for health. This is why 100% SINGLE ingredient dog treats (no additives or preservatives) can be used in higher amounts. Consult your vet if in doubt.
How many treats should I give my dog at one time?
The number of treats you can give your dog at one time depends on the size of the treat and your dog's size. As a general rule, it's best to stick to small, bite-sized treats and give your dog no more than 1-2 treats per training session. However if you are after an Occupier treat such as a bone, that should be bigger, so they dont eat it all at once. Also some of the harder jerkies and fish skins are meant to take time to eat.
Can I use dog treats as a reward during training?
Yes, dog treats can be a great reward during training as they provide positive reinforcement for good behavior. Note - we have created a specific dog treat category that includes the kind of small fast treats that are ideal for dog training
What should I look for when choosing dog treats?
When choosing dog treats, look for high-quality, all-natural (ANIMAL BASED) ingredients that are free of artificial preservatives, colors, and flavors. Consider your dog's dietary needs and any allergies or sensitivities they may have. How should I store my dog treats?
Dog treats should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight or heat, as this can cause them to spoil or become stale. Check the expiration date on the package and discard any treats that have gone bad.
Which treats are best for my dog's age or health condition?

Your dog might require several types of treats for their specific needs. This ranges from Function (is it for training, quick reward, protein supplement or to pre-occupy when you leave home). The treat type also depends on if they have allergies,  their age and chewing ability, and of course owner's preference.
