Shark Cartilage Powder – thick (Australian Origin)

This Shark Cartilage is just ground down whole shark cartilage, nothing added. While you can buy much more expensive Capsule forms in prettier bottles, why would you use anything besides raw 100% shark cartilage powder?

This powder varies from batch to batch, but is usually about 1 or 2mm grains of 100% shark cartilage, just ground down. The colour can vary between whitish, yellow or brownish grains.  If you are after super refined powder, try our shark cartilage powder fine.

The difference between this and the shark cartilage FINE version is that the fine is ground to a very fine powder version and often appears slightly whiter. They are both made from the same shark cartilage just ground down to different levels.  Some people prefer this slightly less ground, grainy version for easier handling and mouth feel (more solid texture) for their dogs

If you scour the net, you will find that many people are buying this product for their own health benefits. I personally mainly use whole shark cartilage for my dog when I am away from home and can’t easily obtain chicken necks for him (they are a great source of Calcium).. but there is much more to the story.

Shark Cartilage Granular / coarse powder – Dog Nutrition benefits

Shark Cartilage is mostly know as a whole food source of glucosamine and chondroitin. Hence it is regularly used and prescribed by vets for dogs and cats that suffer with joint and mobility issues including arthritis and hip and elbow dysplasia and inflammations. Albeit in more expensive and wasteful capsule form (from a high margin pharmaceutical company).

Shark Cartilage is also claimed to boost the immune system, and to assist in the fight against some cancers, so as you can see shark cartilage is considered a great preventative as well for pets of any age.  The link between Shark cartilage and anti cancer properties lies in the chemicals that inhibit the formation of blood vessels (which also assists relief for arthritic dogs). The inhibition of the formation of blood vessels is said to prevents nutrients reaching tumours that can stop the formation of canine cancer.

• Mucopolysaccharides (pain relief and healing dog joint cartilage)
• Amino acids (protein)
• Carbohydrates
• Calcium / Phosphorus (in the correct ratio for health)

Shark Cartilage Dosage

If you are feeding a dog shark cartilage for calcium (on a raw diet) giving them about the same amount as you would chicken necks (1 or 2 sticks for a 20 kg dog) is typical per day.

In shark cartilage powder form, owners typically sprinkle it over wet dog food. For joint pain relief it is expected that results are usually seen in  3 weeks.

Typically each teaspoon of shark cartilage powder contains around 2,000 mg of shark cartilage.  Recommended dosages are:
