Beef Paddywack / Paddywhack / Beef tendon pieces – Australian ONLY.
There seems to be some confusion in the industry because of the various names of this product. The great news is that ours is 100% Australian grown and dried. Our paddywacks are the end pieces of the regular ‘beef tendon’ cut into shorter approx 10 cm segments.
While we sell regular beef tendons those are the whole long ones about 20 to 30 cm long a little like a misshapen ruler. They are only about 5 mm thick at most parts and hard to the touch but seem relatively easy for dogs to break pieces off.
The paddywack dog treats sold as dog treats are the parts at either end of the beef tendon. They are cut off to make the regular beef tendon length manageable. So they are made of the same material, but shorter easier to chew pieces for smaller dogs. Or if you Want a natural economical short treat for a large dog these will also work.
OUR paddywhacks are generally cut into 10 cm (on average) segments of the tendons and can be around 5 to 10 mm in width. This cutting means that they are a great size for medium sized dogs to chew (while most dog owners buy the full length bully sticks for their larger chewing dogs).
WHAT PART OF THE COW?
Beef paddywack dog treats are the tendon in the centre of the neck of cows. This so called ‘ nuchal ligament” is a combination of elastin proteins and type 3 collagen. Wiki says that their composition is typically : high in protein (78%) , then fat (10%), crude fibre (0.7%), and crude ash (1%)
DOG TREAT USAGE
Clearly they are a chewing treat, but being 100% animal and natural (no preservatives) they are much healthier and recommended for your carnivore dog – easy to process and digest. Yes they have some fat, but since dogs dont eat them as fast as jerkies, boredom will be reduced for longer.
It also means that your dogs jaw will get exercise and their teeth cleaned, reducing dentist visits. The chewing is softer than animal bones so they are a good long chewing safe treat for most medium sized dogs.
Also simply because they are cut from the ends they are typically cheaper than whole single beef tendons, and since you are buying as a set weight, you know exactly what you are getting.
