Archie dog's Mark of the Year Entry AFL 2015That's a title you don't read every day.
This is just another blip in the life of a dog that is walked twice a day forever. And why wouldn't you? Or why do I? But how did that mark come about?
The art of the meetingThe art of the dog meet and greet.
I spend a lot of time at off lead dog parks, as I am a Professional dog walker. And nothing makes me happier than seeing new dogs do the correct meeting signals as they approach our pack, and both groups get to know each other.
Dog Walk adventure 17nov14For several years now I have been entertaining the world via social media blogs such as:
https://www.facebook.com/HealthyDogTreatsShop but have forgotten to document my daily travels on my own website, doh ! So I figure no time like the present.
Harry corgi jack russell dog having fun in a local dog park VIDEOHarry is a remarkable dog not just for how he started out, but also for his age. Owned by a publican, for much of his life Harry thought he was a guard dog. With the owners having very little spare time, Harry tended not to be walked a lot and rarely off lead.
That changed about 3 years ago, and he is a completely different dog for it. Much for the better!
Amy the bernese mountain dog dancing a jig to entertain us & dog? VIDEOAmy is a fun loving very social bernese mountain dog. She remains fun loving and social because her owner's make sure that she is at least walked one big off lead walk per day, or more.
Almost everyone who sees her says what a beautiful looking and gentle nature dog she is. However I know she has a secret play side that very few people get to see. That is what this article and enclosed video are about!
This dog video shows her tactic of finding a dog that she thinks she can have some fun with by convincing them how big and brave she is. But of course its all an act.
Archie spoodle dog & the cat through the window. VIDEOEvery now and then I insert a video of my dog doing dog things, fun things, training things.
This video tetters along the fun side. Of course if you are a cat, you might not think so, but no cat was hurt, or even phased during the filming and editing of this short film.
I know that a lot of dog owners also have cats, but if you have just a dog, you might recognise this urgency and interest my dog is showing in the cat, that regularly frequents our yard and marks its territory.
Max jack russell - a personal profile of a beautiful dog VIDEOMax is a remarkable dog that I walk as a professional dog walker in parks in the inner west of Melbourne. As you will see (in the embedded video) he is a remarkable dog for many reasons.
Originally a rescue dog, Max has been with his owner for quite a while now. He is still prone to bouts of excitability, but most healthy dogs are. The big difference with Max is that he is nearly13 years old.
Chloe the Boxer dog, having fun in an Australian Park VIDEOAs you will see from this clip Chloe is a remarkably settled boxer dog. Which is even more amazing considering that she lives with the very high energy staffy known as Apache (article and video also on this site).
Chloe is over ten years old and as you will see from her rear leg scare had a large operation a few years ago to successfully remove a malignant growth.
Apache English Staffordshire Terrier on dog walks. VIDEOA curious thing happens when you start talking staffys. It really seems to divide the dog lover camps. Many owners of staffy's will tell you their dogs are sweet as apple pie, would never hurt a fly etc. Other people, dog owners and non dog owners will tell you the opposite. As usual the truth lies somewhere in-between.
While all dogs need socialisation to behave within acceptable human and dog standards, powerful breeds such as English Staffordshire terriers particularly need regular supervised contact with other dogs, to remain social.
Archie Spoodle Ella (lab) - the hardest playing dogs ever. VIDEOLet me begin by saying that Archie is my dog, and I am a professional dog walker that had been waking Ella the black lab for several months before they both worked up to this level of play.
To the casual observer this might almost appear like dog fighting, rather than dog play, but to experienced dog owners and dog behaviourists, it can be seen that they are having the time of their lives.
Tilly (jack russell) & blue heeler almost mating. VIDEOThe most remarkable thing about this video is that previous to this, these two dogs has completely ignored each other. One a jack russell, the other a blue heeler.
The blue heeler is usually ball obsessed, while the jack russell mostly enjoys being patted or hunting vermin.
Archie spoodle dog & Zizi show 3 levels of social play in our yard. VIDEOThis article and video is far more than meets the eye. For people who know what a truly social dog is, the video will be no surprise. My dog in this video, is a six year old dominant spoodle, however with his daily walks he knows how to get what he wants from a situation without aggression.
This video shows three stages of him playing with a young challenging puppy. Dog play is all about sorting out pack hierarchy, and although the puppy is just testing its skills, it is still attempting to win a higher pack position, which my dog will not relinquish.
BLITZ the very friendly 12 y.o. Bull mastiff X ridgeback tribute VIDEOBlitz was not always the free spirit fun loving dog you see in this video. Due to change in home environment this mastiff cross ridgeback had become quite an anti social dog before I met him as a pro dog walker a few years ago.
Being a border line dog, but faced with possibly being killed, I thought I would try and bring him back from being chained up and put on anti depressants by a vet's recommendations.
Sidney Kelpie border collie cross takes an obsessive play with a boxer dog VIDEOBeing a pro dog walker you might think that I would have a chance to accumulate many videos about dogs, but I like to be very selective. That means when a rare opportunity like this one comes around, I grab it.
This is Sidney the regular walk client I used to have meeting up with this boxer dog for the first time. You will see a Labrador dog trying to keep up with the two at the start, but Sidney's fixation wins.
Charlie (maltese Bichon X) multi coloured dog.. playing in long grass VIDEOCharlie is a very special Maltese cross. For one he is rainbow coloured dog! The groomer suggested this and the dog safe colouring has become her trademark.
The other reason she is special is that she is under one year of age, a rescue dog, and very social without any major fears or anxieties.
Rarely have I walked such a settled small dog. Her owner was very impressed with the initial reports that I gave her about how well Charlie was doing in an off lead pack environment.
Archie fast motion video of eating a whole Roast pork bone .. VIDEOYou may not think that there is much to talk about when a dog eats a bone, but it can be quite rare for a few dogs for their owners to trust the with such amazing dog treats.
The black dog range of dog treats that I sell on this site has many bones in it. I only stock a few of the total range, but know that they are all expertly dried by blackdog.
Louie the loveable Rottweiler pup walking down stairs .. VIDEOLouie is a special case when he gets out into the open grass plains to play. He takes on all comers.
When I get to pick him up from his owner's apartment he is almost hysterical with excitement.
Two German Short Haired pinscher VERY excited before a walk .. VIDEOSometimes I get to walk very sedate young or old dogs. Sometimes they are asleep when I arrive to pick them up. This is clearly not the case with these two VERY high energy German short haired pinschers.
The video takes place mostly in the front child's toy room before we get to the front door.
Archie dog VERY excited at the beach .. VIDEOEvery owner knows what placates their dog, and what revs them up.
The beach is my spoodle (cockapoo) dog's favourite place to get excited. He has always been this way. Being two retriever dogs bred to retrieve fallen birds from water probably adds to this too. But the crashing waves, very dig-able sand and a surface that he can skid around on really tweak this dog into maximum excitement mode.
Archie spoodle dog & the cat drive-by .. VIDEOTo be fair, Archie was in this neighbourhood first.
Archie is highly social, but highly excitable over things that for hundreds of years his breeds were trained to retrieve. While mostly these things are birds and rabbits, it appears that cats may also sneak into this category.
Border collie and Beagle pups playing frantically on grass VIDEOThe enclosed video shows two puppies playing. The reason that it is unique and relatively amazing, is that these two breeds are recognised as very smart dogs and highly effective working dogs.
The border collie is known as one of the smartest dogs on earth , and one of the best herding dogs, while the beagle has one of the greatest dog noses on earth and is one of the oldest and best tracking dogs you will find.
The irony of these facts is that when these breeds hit adult hood, they often leave the inquisitive explorative puppy play far behind and become all about business.
A Blue heeler & 2 kelpie cross dogs play hard retrieving in water VIDEOOh the sweet irony. This is one of the more high energy dog videos I have taken. Some people might think that the energy level is too high or that a dangerous situation might occur. But knowing the dogs involved and their previous history reduced that fear before the play started.
One irony is that people don't like seeing dogs run around excited. It raises fears about what they might do. If you are talking about a powerful dog that is not social, then you might be well advised to have caution. If you are talking about the three working dog breeds that have had a lot of previous history together such as these dogs, then you can relax.
Archie (spoodle) dog gets very close to ducks & chickens VIDEOThe premise was fun. My client was minding three ducks and three young chickens and had seen hour fascinated my spoodle was with all things bird and cat. She proposed that we satisfy his curiosity by giving him a tour of her back yard on lead. What could go wrong?
I have mentioned this before, but will again specifically for this video. A spoodle is two retriever dogs in one. Poodle and cocker spaniel. Both of these retrieved ducks and the like from swamps for their hunter owners. They were bred and evolved for years to do this task and in the process developed a very keen sense of smell and tracking abilities.
Archie spoodle teaching us how to rip a cardboard rollThe fact that a dog chews things is not going to surprise many people. However have you thought about why they chew things, and if dogs have different preferences for the chewing object.
Just like different human races have different food preferences, often based on climate and food availability and social history, dogs too form strong preferences for foods and chewing preferences.
