Max the golden retriever doing cute goofy things in the park. VIDEOAlmost by definition most people think of golden retrievers as happy and goofy. As a dog walker we really get to see the differences in their personalities ounce they hit the off lead park.
It is almost universal that they all love water and wallowing in a puddle, However the golden retriever behaviour spectrum is almost as wide as any dog breed out there.
Mac, a corgi cross dog, that lives for excitementIts funny how randomness of life brings you together with certain people or dogs. I met Mac first when I was requested to pet sit him on occasions that both owners were working. He gets afternoon walks with myself and my dog Archie every few months or so.
On those walks around his own suburb, he spends a massive amount of time marketing territory, which my dog then remarks.
A new dog Lily (spoodle) joins the dog-pack for the first timeAs a pro dog walker I have had many situations where our dog pack has encountered new dogs in the park for the first time. Some are social, some have had very little exposure to other dogs off lead.
This short post is about Lily the spoodle who at under a year old did amazingly well with our dog pack for the first time.
A hauntingly beautiful & friendly Husky dog called HollyI could easily wax lyrical about the dogs I have in my own dog pack for eternity, because the more you know any dog, the more like family they become. However today's post is about a husky dog called Holly.
We first met Holly a year or so ago when by age she was much more of an official puppy. Her owner has done all of the right things by regularly taking her to off lead parks and keeping her social. For people who dont believe you can do this with a husky, holly is proof.
A great time in the wet at the Williamstown dog Park BeachIt started out a little overcast after a very hot night then some thunder. It was deciding whether it would drizzle or not when we got to the Williamstown back beach.
The dogs were just interested in getting out of the car and having a good time. They were all very highly energized, even the oldest member Harry.
The famous Newport Melbourne Dog Park Bench. There isn't much that is a better gauge of how the dog pack is going than this Newport Melbourne Park bench.
Originally I would stop at the bench because we would meet people there, or it gave us a focus for the pack to stay around while some members played on the grass, then slowly it became much more central.
Apache Staffordshire terrier dog & Louie Rottweiler X play love affair. You may not get this specifically from this photos, but these two dogs are in Play love.
They don't always have their dog walk days coincide, and if they are not together, the walk is a relatively sedate affair for everyone. However when Louie and Apache get together, all play rules are off the table and they play as hard as they like.
Off lead dog Walking in Newport best in the rain !Dogs and rain, what is all the fuss about?
You know, dogs descended from wolves 20,000 years ago, dogs being a 'wild creature' etc etc.
Today was the wettest off lead dog walk I have had all year. There was little thunder so it was a safe venture for all dogs, and it wasn't pouring consistently when we started.
Picture perfect Dog Christmas card setting, randomly manifestsRarely do such splendid dog pictures accidently manifest in the boot of my car. When they do I call them a Christmas dog picture, one picture perfect for any Christmas card, for any dog lover.
You might think that is going a little too far, but perhaps you should see the 'before shot' below, and the reason for the difference.
Archie spoodle dog digging out a rabbit hole (fast motion). VIDEOThis is one of the most dedicated digs I have ever seen Archie dog attempt.
There was no sign of the rabbit, but there was a strong scent that a rabbit had been there previously, recently.
He is only allowed to go into this part of the park in non summer months to avoid snakes, but as you can see he gets very satisfied and expends a lot of energy in doing so. But there is also something much more primal at play here.
Archie dog's Mark of the Year Entry AFL 2015That's a title you don't read every day.
This is just another blip in the life of a dog that is walked twice a day forever. And why wouldn't you? Or why do I? But how did that mark come about?
The art of the meetingThe art of the dog meet and greet.
I spend a lot of time at off lead dog parks, as I am a Professional dog walker. And nothing makes me happier than seeing new dogs do the correct meeting signals as they approach our pack, and both groups get to know each other.
Dog Walk adventure 17nov14For several years now I have been entertaining the world via social media blogs such as:
https://www.facebook.com/HealthyDogTreatsShop but have forgotten to document my daily travels on my own website, doh ! So I figure no time like the present.
Harry corgi jack russell dog having fun in a local dog park VIDEOHarry is a remarkable dog not just for how he started out, but also for his age. Owned by a publican, for much of his life Harry thought he was a guard dog. With the owners having very little spare time, Harry tended not to be walked a lot and rarely off lead.
That changed about 3 years ago, and he is a completely different dog for it. Much for the better!
Amy the bernese mountain dog dancing a jig to entertain us & dog? VIDEOAmy is a fun loving very social bernese mountain dog. She remains fun loving and social because her owner's make sure that she is at least walked one big off lead walk per day, or more.
Almost everyone who sees her says what a beautiful looking and gentle nature dog she is. However I know she has a secret play side that very few people get to see. That is what this article and enclosed video are about!
This dog video shows her tactic of finding a dog that she thinks she can have some fun with by convincing them how big and brave she is. But of course its all an act.
Archie spoodle dog & the cat through the window. VIDEOEvery now and then I insert a video of my dog doing dog things, fun things, training things.
This video tetters along the fun side. Of course if you are a cat, you might not think so, but no cat was hurt, or even phased during the filming and editing of this short film.
I know that a lot of dog owners also have cats, but if you have just a dog, you might recognise this urgency and interest my dog is showing in the cat, that regularly frequents our yard and marks its territory.
Max jack russell - a personal profile of a beautiful dog VIDEOMax is a remarkable dog that I walk as a professional dog walker in parks in the inner west of Melbourne. As you will see (in the embedded video) he is a remarkable dog for many reasons.
Originally a rescue dog, Max has been with his owner for quite a while now. He is still prone to bouts of excitability, but most healthy dogs are. The big difference with Max is that he is nearly13 years old.
Chloe the Boxer dog, having fun in an Australian Park VIDEOAs you will see from this clip Chloe is a remarkably settled boxer dog. Which is even more amazing considering that she lives with the very high energy staffy known as Apache (article and video also on this site).
Chloe is over ten years old and as you will see from her rear leg scare had a large operation a few years ago to successfully remove a malignant growth.
Apache English Staffordshire Terrier on dog walks. VIDEOA curious thing happens when you start talking staffys. It really seems to divide the dog lover camps. Many owners of staffy's will tell you their dogs are sweet as apple pie, would never hurt a fly etc. Other people, dog owners and non dog owners will tell you the opposite. As usual the truth lies somewhere in-between.
While all dogs need socialisation to behave within acceptable human and dog standards, powerful breeds such as English Staffordshire terriers particularly need regular supervised contact with other dogs, to remain social.
Archie Spoodle Ella (lab) - the hardest playing dogs ever. VIDEOLet me begin by saying that Archie is my dog, and I am a professional dog walker that had been waking Ella the black lab for several months before they both worked up to this level of play.
To the casual observer this might almost appear like dog fighting, rather than dog play, but to experienced dog owners and dog behaviourists, it can be seen that they are having the time of their lives.
Tilly (jack russell) & blue heeler almost mating. VIDEOThe most remarkable thing about this video is that previous to this, these two dogs has completely ignored each other. One a jack russell, the other a blue heeler.
The blue heeler is usually ball obsessed, while the jack russell mostly enjoys being patted or hunting vermin.
BLITZ the very friendly 12 y.o. Bull mastiff X ridgeback tribute VIDEOBlitz was not always the free spirit fun loving dog you see in this video. Due to change in home environment this mastiff cross ridgeback had become quite an anti social dog before I met him as a pro dog walker a few years ago.
Being a border line dog, but faced with possibly being killed, I thought I would try and bring him back from being chained up and put on anti depressants by a vet's recommendations.
Archie spoodle dog & Zizi show 3 levels of social play in our yard. VIDEOThis article and video is far more than meets the eye. For people who know what a truly social dog is, the video will be no surprise. My dog in this video, is a six year old dominant spoodle, however with his daily walks he knows how to get what he wants from a situation without aggression.
This video shows three stages of him playing with a young challenging puppy. Dog play is all about sorting out pack hierarchy, and although the puppy is just testing its skills, it is still attempting to win a higher pack position, which my dog will not relinquish.
Sidney Kelpie border collie cross takes an obsessive play with a boxer dog VIDEOBeing a pro dog walker you might think that I would have a chance to accumulate many videos about dogs, but I like to be very selective. That means when a rare opportunity like this one comes around, I grab it.
This is Sidney the regular walk client I used to have meeting up with this boxer dog for the first time. You will see a Labrador dog trying to keep up with the two at the start, but Sidney's fixation wins.
