The dog named Harry Jack Russell Corgi was having fun in a VIDEO at the local dog park

harry dog Harry jack russell corgi is a remarkable dog not just for how he started out, but also for his age. Owned by a publican, for much of his life Harry thought he was a guard dog. With the owners having very little spare time, Harry tended not to be walked a lot and rarely off lead.

That changed about 3 years ago, and he is a completely different dog for it. Much for the better!

On my first walk with Harry he had a mass of anxiety and was not particularly social with the rest of the dogs in the pack. Being social is not any more natural for a dog in isolation than it is for a human. But dogs are pack animals and need socialisation, regularly, to become balanced and healthy.

Within a few months of being walked three times per week by myself (on lead), and with our dog pack, Harry soon came around.

Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks!

Which leads us to the second amazing thing about Harry. being about 13, he is one of the more sprightly little dogs you will find. We think he is part corgi part jack Russell, but no dna testing has been performed.  Regardless of his breed origins, he is exceedingly healthy with few random vet visits. He doesn't seem to have any arthritis or any other major health complaints.

And when he returns to his home, his owners are always amazed at how much energy he still seems to have as he goes bounding down their hallway.

The dog walks allow Harry the chance to mostly go at his own pace, and sniff as many plants and dog smells as he can fit into our off lead walk time. As you will see from the video, he mostly keeps to himself, but is not snappy or off standing to dogs in his own pack.

You will hear a lot of people saying about how their dog doesn't like this breed, size or colour of dog. That an experience in the past has kept with their dog forever. The funny thing is that almost every dog gets over itself by having these off lead walks.

Harry still often barks at an oncoming dog or dog pack, but he does so considering that he is the protector of the pack, the warning alarm. And this is all that he does, his complete guard dog duties have reduced to this small reminder of what he thought his job was. Now he is more happy (as are all dogs) to be in nature and move among his own kind. Noting that there are very few breeds in the pack or park that are like his particular breed inputs.

Harry is proudly a member of our dog pack three times a week, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
